Monday? Check. Today is blah. I spent my morning doing some very boring, very repetitive data entry. I found out that I know more about navigating the new computer system than most of the other OS's. We are all, however, still waiting to be trained on it. Opening is in less than two months.

I hate having to walk to and from central campus in 100+ degree heat. My feet hurt so badly by the time I got there, I was gasping in pain. Why, you might ask? Plantar Fasciitis. I've had it for about the last 3 months, but the pain was never bad enough for me to go see a doctor until last Thursday when I could barely make it from my car to my office (a 15-min hike).

It was the flamenco. Sure, there were other factors that put me on high-risk, but the flamenco started it - too much repeated stomping on a hard surface. My heels feel like they're bruised; my right ankle feels locked up. Woe is me. I considered quitting flamenco, at least for a little while, but the doctor says I don't need to. She did, however, say that I must be doing something wrong to have caused this in the first place. So starting next week, I wil be taking the footwork class, and only the footwork class.

I think my biggest problem with the flamenco classes is that we never stretch. Not before, not during, not after. In every good bd class you stretch - which is why I think the pf hasn't been worse. Up til last Wednesday I was taking Ellisha's fire tray class. And Ellisha will make sure that you're good and streched out. Last Wednesday was the first time in 6 weeks that I hadn't had Ellisha's class. No streching = sore, sore feet. Today, I will stretch before flamenco class - after as well.

But as this is kind of depressing, here's

did your doc tell you stuff to do for your PF? the tennis ball or glass soda style bottle thing? the stretching, especially in the am? massage for your feets? all that stuff?

She told me to stretch them, but nothing else. I looked it up on WebMD after I got back to my office and found out all the other stuff.

Oh geez. Well, I actually had it (self diagnosed but all the symptoms were there) when I started massage school (on my feet a whole bunch all of a sudden when I wasn't used to it) and I researched it as well as asked my instructors. I'll just tell you what I know in case you didn't find some of it online. One of the most common suggestions I've heard for PF is to rolling your foot around on a tennis ball or on a glass coke (or whatever brand) bottle. My grandpa even did this years ago when he was afflicted with it. Stretching your foot on stairs or curbs are really good ways to stretch them. Any massage should help it for immediate pain and to lessen the condition overall if you keep up with it. I mean, just doing it yourself would work or making your brand new husband do it would work too. Heh heh heh. Heat from a foot bath should help too b/c it'll allow the fascia and muscles to relax and stretch out. Good, supportive, non-heeled shoes would probably be good to wear. PF is usually the worst when you wake up (although it wasn't for me) so stretching your feet when you get out of bed would be a very good time to stretch them. Also, try not to sleep with anything (heavy blankets, animals, whatever) pushing your feet into the pointed toes position b/c that just gives the fascia and muscles that are already tight more opportunity to get shorter and tighter. Hope that helps.

It's treatable, but the internets say it can take 6 months to a year to heal.

I had something similar in my feet. I don't rememeber exactly what it was (as I was in marching band and wasn't going stop for no stinking foot disorder) but it had something to do with the ligaments along my arches being too tight or something equally odd. It took me an entire school year to recover. I however was marching so hopefully yours will be much much much better as it would kill me to see you stop dancing for anything. BTW I am also trained in refelxology so if the hubby doesn't take the hints I would be happy to help in anyway I can.
